“The Monte Cristo yurt was just what we were looking for! Solitude, a little adventure getting to it, and lots of nature! The stargazing from the deck can’t be beaten! Everything was well thought out and stocked and the heater and woodburning stove made a single digit night cozy! If you come in the snow don’t forget your sled as the hills around the yurt are perfect for sledding :)

I saw other reviews which talked about annoying rules, so I was initially worried. However, the “rules” are far from annoying. They are pretty basic etiquette rules and more than anything, make sure that this place stays great for years to come. Nothing annoying about them and they didn’t take away from the experience in any way. I was pleased with how many things they had available at the yurt. Soap, sponges, pots, pans, etc. They have everything you could possibly need for a great time in the mountains. This place had all the essentials and nothing else, making it perfect for a much needed get away.”

It stormed pretty heavily the entire time we were there, so we can’t really attest for the sunsets or stargazing opportunities as much as we can the robustness of the yurt structure! The sound of the rain hitting the yurt, and watching the storm clouds roll in and out through the skylight was an equally amazing alternative. The wood burning stove was a surprising amenity for late August, as we didn’t expect to need it. It got down into the low 40s, and it added just the right amount of coziness, since the rain (and fire restrictions) eliminated the option for a campfire outside. The yurt was stocked with all the necessities to make for a very comfortable experience. We brought a lot of our own items, just because we could (driving right up in the summer was a luxury in itself), but if you find yourself there in the winter, you’ll have all that you need.”

It was easy to find with the detailed instructions given. The small pads on the bed were surprisingly comfortable with sleeping bags thrown on top. “We have wanted to stay in a yurt for years and this one did not disappoint! Only took about an hour to snowshoe in (pulling gear and at a small but consistent incline) but still had the secluded, backcountry feel. Our dogs and 2 year old had fun exploring the woods around the yurt. Lots of kitchen accessories to use for cooking, and plenty of chopped wood. Yurt is nice and warm if you keep the fire burning (and the opposite if you don’t, of course) - my husband added a piece of wood about every 3-4 hrs during the night and we all stayed cozy. Dont forget to look up on clear nights - we fell asleep to a sky full of stars through the skylight. Hosts are friendly, helpful and quick to respond. We cant wait to go back and look forward to checking it out during different seasons of the year.”

Hang out in the woods with your friends or family, heated by a wood fire, enjoy tasty grub and drinks you make on the stove, and sleep on classic yurt bunks with paco pads. A nice little getaway from the norm. We went in the winter and skied up the road pulling sleds with our toddler. There is a gentle slope by the yurt for kiddo sledding, but our toddler’s schedule did not allow us to explore beyond the yurt...The solar light system was nice, props on that! There were chairs, tables, a good selection of cooking supplies, firewood, TP, etc. Enjoy!”

“Whether you’re new to the outdoors or an experienced traveler, I think this is a perfect location if you want to get away and experience the outdoors. It feels totally safe, yet nice and secluded with zero neighbors. I brought my two dogs with me and they loved laying on their dog beds up on the deck in the evenings and just taking it all in ha ha. I used a couple of chairs and set them at the top of the stairs to the yurt so I didn’t have to worry about the dogs wandering around when it got a little later in the day. I felt the road is totally fine even for a car (not in the winter). The drive up through the canyon was absolutely beautiful, and I will definitely return again in the future. Peace and happiness!”

We made sure to bring many games and activities for the little ones and our older was happy to adventure around outside of the yurt. Almost right after arriving, we saw a moose. It’s incredibly peaceful up at this yurt, but the real treat comes at night. The stars out there are incredible! The milky way goes right over head and you can see for miles.”

The last several miles of road is a bit bumpy, so it would be best to go via a sturdy vehicle such as a truck, jeep, ATV, etc,... We did go in cars and survive though, so if you do that go slow. The hosts had detailed instructions on finding the location. We fell in love with the view and the clean air. The sunrise, sunset, and night sky were spectacular! Waking up to the birds in the morning is amazing. Make sure to bring water, sleeping bags or sheets and blankets to cover the pads.”

It is perfect for the “outdoorsy” people, as well as the “non-outdoorsy” people :) We loved everything about this place! The supplied bed mats were great, and much better than I anticipated. Very comfortable. We just laid our sleeping bag out on the bed and slept with only a blanket. Plenty warm in the summer time. The stove inside was so nice touch too! We woke up and had bacon and eggs. They even had a huge round table for games and eating. The view from the deck is incredible! Easy to get to and worth the back country drive in.”

“Go to the yurt! We went up last minute for a little getaway and it was so beautiful, so much fun and very relaxing. We loved being able to bring our dogs! They have never been happier exploring and wandering in such a beautiful setting. The road wasn’t muddy and we were able to drive all the way up to the yurt which was great! We hiked a bit then spent the night watching the sunset on the deck and playing games inside. The wood stove kept us very toasty, almost too toasty in fact! The sleeping mats are more comfortable than we expected and we slept great! The only thing some of the girls wished for was a porta potty or something up on the deck to pee in, they got scared in the night wandering out in the dark to go to the bathroom. But otherwise everything was perfect and we even got to see some moose up on the hill, bring some binoculars! Thanks so much for such a fun getaway, we will be back!”

“J&T’s yurt is amazing! I stayed for two nights with some friends in early December, but it would comfortable sleep up to 8 people! Although there was no snow on the ground, it was still cold - but the wood stove keeps the yurt super warm and comfortable. The gas stove worked perfectly for cooking, and the yurt comes with great amenities - we certainly did not feel like we were roughing it. The yurt was clean, and the wood was well supplied - overall resulted in a fantastic weekend trip!”
